OceanServer awarded 4th Navy AUV contractOceanServer Technology announced today that it was recently awarded a competitive procurement to deliver two lightweight multibeam sonar equipped AUV’s to the US Navy. These AUV’s are to be operationally tested and delivered to the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Command at the Stennis Space Center in September of 2010.

Pioneering deep-sea robot lost at seaA pioneering deep-sea exploration robot-one of the first successful submersible vehicles that was both unmanned and untethered to surface ships-was lost at sea Friday, March 5, on a research expedition off the coast of Chile. The 15-year-old Autonomous Benthic Explorer, affectionately nicknamed ABE, was launched late Thursday night and had reached the seafloor to begin its 222nd research dive when, in the early hours of Friday morning, all contact with the surface vessel abruptly ceased. All efforts to reestablish contact failed.

Phoenix mobilizes m/v Anne Candies for Air France Flight 447 searchPhoenix International Holdings, Inc. (Phoenix) announced the charter of its M/V Anne Candies by the Bureau d'Enquetes et d'Analyses (BEA). BEA is the French air safety investigation agency responsible for investigating the loss of Air France Flight 447 (AF447) which had departed Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for Paris, France on June 1, 2009 when it was inexplicably lost over the Atlantic Ocean.
